Tile & StoneTile & Stone
A tile shower is only as good as its waterproofing system underneath. We install industry-leading membrane systems including Schluter Kerdi, RedGard, and foam-core shower systems before any tile goes down — protecting the structure for decades.
After framing or cement board installation, the waterproofing membrane is applied over all surfaces — floor, walls, and transitions. Seams and corners are taped and sealed. Schluter Kerdi or similar systems are used for full-coverage protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a shower need a waterproofing membrane if there is already cement board?
Cement board is moisture-resistant but not waterproof. Water penetrates it over time and will eventually reach the framing and subfloor, causing rot, mold, and structural damage. The waterproofing membrane - applied over the cement board or foam substrate - is what actually stops water. Without it, even a well-tiled shower will fail within years.
What is Schluter Kerdi and why is it recommended?
Schluter Kerdi is a bonded waterproofing membrane system that installs directly over drywall or cement board. It's thin, fabric-reinforced, and tiles bond directly to it using modified thin-set. It's popular because it eliminates the need for heavy mud beds, installs faster, and has an extensive system of matching drains, corners, and transitions that create a fully integrated waterproof assembly.
How long do we need to wait after waterproofing before tiling?
With Schluter Kerdi, you can typically tile the next day once the thin-set bonding it has cured. Liquid-applied membranes like RedGard need to cure to a solid colour - usually 24-48 hours depending on temperature and humidity. We won't rush this step because it's the most critical part of any shower installation.
How long does a properly installed waterproofing system last?
A properly installed membrane system in a residential shower should outlast the tile itself - typically 20-30 years or more. Failures usually come from poor installation at corners and penetrations, or from grout and caulk maintenance being neglected. We treat every corner and pipe penetration as a potential failure point and detail them accordingly.
