Trim Installation
Millwork

Millwork

Interior trim ties a room together. We install all types of finish carpentry trim — crown moulding, chair rails, wainscoting cap, picture rails, and flat stock casings — using precise mitre, butt, and cope joints for a clean professional finish.

How It Works

Trim is measured, pre-painted or primed where possible, then cut and installed with precision mitre work. All nail holes are filled, joints are caulked, and trim is finish-painted or stained in place.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is crown moulding installed on an uneven ceiling?

Most residential ceilings have some bow or dip, and crown has to follow that or the shadow gap between the crown and ceiling becomes very noticeable. We scribe and back-cut crown where needed to keep it tight to both the wall and ceiling. On badly uneven ceilings, we may use a nailer strip or build out the backing to create a consistent nailing surface before the crown goes up.

What is the difference between a coped joint and a mitered joint on trim?

A mitered joint cuts both pieces at 45 degrees and joins them in the corner - it looks clean initially but opens up as the wood expands and contracts. A coped joint cuts one piece square to the wall and profiles the end of the other piece to fit over the face of the first - it stays tight over time regardless of seasonal movement. We use coped joints on inside corners for all trim work.

How long does trim installation take for a full room?

Crown moulding in a standard bedroom takes about half a day. A living room with crown, picture rail, and wainscoting cap might be a full day. A full home trim package typically runs 3-7 days depending on the number of rooms, ceiling heights, and complexity of the profiles being used.

Should trim be primed before or after installation?

Both. We prime profiles before installation for full coverage on all sides, then nail, fill, caulk, and prime again on any cut ends and nail holes after install. The final finish coats of paint go on after. Pre-priming before installation gives the painter a better substrate and eliminates the need to cut in carefully around raw wood - it saves time and improves the final result.
