Tile & Stone

Natural stone brings timeless beauty and unique character to any space. We source, fabricate, and install marble, travertine, slate, limestone, and quartzite — sealing and grouting to preserve the stone for generations.

How It Works

Natural stone requires a fully stable, flat, and rigid substrate. We dry-lay the stone for pattern verification, then set with appropriate mortar, allowing full cure. Grout is selected to complement the stone's natural tones, and a penetrating sealer is applied.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does natural stone need to be sealed before use?

Most natural stone should be sealed before grouting and again periodically after installation. Marble, travertine, and limestone are porous and absorb liquids easily - sealing reduces staining significantly. Slate and quartzite are denser and less porous but still benefit from sealing. Granite is the densest and least porous, but we still recommend sealing in kitchen applications.

Which natural stone is the most durable for floor use?

Quartzite and granite are the hardest and most durable natural stones for floor applications. Slate is also very durable and naturally cleft surface gives excellent traction. Marble and travertine are beautiful but softer - they scratch and etch more easily from acidic cleaners or food spills. For high-traffic floors, quartzite or granite is the better choice over marble.

How do you maintain natural stone floors?

Sweep or dust mop regularly to remove abrasive grit. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner - never acidic cleaners like vinegar or citrus, which will etch polished marble. Re-seal periodically (every 1-3 years depending on traffic and stone type). For polished marble, professional re-polishing may be needed over time.

Are all natural stones equally porous?

Not at all. Porosity varies significantly by stone type and even by slab. Travertine has visible voids that are typically filled during fabrication. Marble is relatively porous and absorbs liquids quickly. Quartzite and granite are much denser. We test the specific stone being installed and advise on the right sealer and application frequency for your situation.
