Millwork

Feature walls, built-in shelving, wainscoting panels, and custom millwork transform a standard room into a designed space. We fabricate and install everything from simple shiplap accent walls to full floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinetry.

How It Works

We design the millwork in collaboration with the client, fabricate components in our shop, and install on-site. All pieces are fitted, painted or finished in place, and sealed for durability.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does fabrication and installation of custom panels take?

Standard wainscoting panels or a shiplap accent wall can be designed, fabricated, and installed in 3-5 days. A floor-to-ceiling built-in unit is a bigger scope - fabrication typically takes 2-3 weeks in our shop, followed by 1-2 days of on-site installation and finishing. We give you a detailed timeline after the design is finalized and approved.

What materials are used for custom panels and built-ins?

For painted finishes, we use MDF panels with solid wood edging - it paints beautifully and stays flat. For stained applications, we use hardwood plywood with solid wood edging and face frames. Structural components use cabinet-grade plywood. We don't use particleboard for any structural or face elements - it doesn't hold fasteners well and deteriorates in high-humidity areas.

Can custom panels and built-ins be installed directly over drywall?

Yes - most panel systems and built-ins attach directly to drywall and studs. We locate studs, anchor into them for structural pieces, and use construction adhesive plus fasteners for paneling. The key is making sure everything is anchored into solid material, not just drywall, for anything that will bear weight or handle regular use.

Should custom panels and built-ins be painted or stained?

That depends on your interior. If the rest of your home's trim is painted, painted panels and built-ins are the natural choice - they integrate seamlessly. If your home has stained wood doors and trim, a stained finish on built-ins creates a cohesive look. Painted finishes are more forgiving to touch up over time; stained finishes show character and wear more visibly.
