Carpet

Carpet tile is the preferred solution for commercial offices, open-plan workspaces, and finished basements. Modular tiles are installed in a loose-lay or pressure-sensitive adhesive system, allowing individual tiles to be replaced if damaged.

How It Works

The floor is cleaned and leveled. Layout is planned from the center or a feature wall. Tiles are laid in a quarter-turn pattern for aesthetics and to distribute wear evenly across the floor.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can individual carpet tiles be replaced if one gets damaged?

Yes - that's one of the main advantages of carpet tile. If a tile is stained, burned, or damaged, you pull up just that tile and replace it without touching the rest of the floor. This is why we always recommend keeping a box of extra tiles after installation. Some older products may be discontinued, so having spares on hand is essential for future repairs.

What subfloor preparation is needed in a basement for carpet tile?

Concrete basement floors need to be clean, flat, and dry before carpet tile installation. We check moisture levels - high moisture can cause adhesion failure and mold under the tiles. For perimeter-bond or full-spread installations, the concrete may need priming. For loose-lay carpet tile, the surface flatness is the main requirement.

Does pile direction matter for carpet tile, and how does it affect wear patterns?

Yes - carpet tile has a pile direction, and how you orient tiles affects the final look and how wear distributes. A monolithic layout (all tiles running the same direction) gives a uniform look but shows wear patterns more obviously in high-traffic areas. A quarter-turn layout (each tile rotated 90 degrees from its neighbour) distributes wear more evenly and is the recommended pattern for commercial spaces.

Is carpet tile suitable for residential use or is it mainly commercial?

Carpet tile works well in both settings. Commercially it's the standard in offices and retail because of easy replacement and design flexibility. Residentially it's popular in finished basements, home offices, and playrooms for the same reasons. The product lines differ - residential carpet tile tends to be softer and more comfortable underfoot; commercial versions are denser and more durable.
